Green Chemistry

Chuck Boelkins, the industrial ecologist at the Sustainability Division where I work, recently gave me this book to read.

Its all about “green chemistry” in everyday products.

Wikipedia has a pretty solid definition of green chemistry — Green chemistry, also called sustainable chemistry, is a philosophy of chemical research and engineering that encourages the design of products and processes that minimize the use and generation of hazardous substances.

I’m only on the first chapter, but found this quote in the prologue that I love –

“Paul Anastas, director of the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale University and a founder of the green chemistry movement has said succintly, “We don’t have a decade to blow“.
